Sentencing Postponed For L.I. Man Who Faked His Own Death

  Admin

Sentencing for a Long Island man who faked his own drowning has been postponed.

Raymond Roth, 48, was due in court Monday to be sentenced for insurance fraud.

Prosecutors said Roth and his son Jonathan Roth conspired to collect at least $410,000 in life insurance after Raymond Roth disappeared in the waters off Jones Beach in July last year.

The plot was discovered after Roth’s wife found emails between father and son discussing the plan and alerted authorities, prosecutors said.

Roth pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges earlier this year and agreed to serve 90 days in jail and five years of probation.

He was also ordered to pay restitution to the U.S. Coast Guard and the Nassau County Police for the search efforts, totaling nearly $37,000.
