A Hayden woman who pleaded guilty to defrauding Progressive Insurance Company was sentenced Friday to 30 days in the county jail and three years probation.

Christina Johnson, 41, a former agent with Jesberger Insurance Agency, admitted to the court that on Oct. 24, 2008, she lowered the deductible of a 1994 Dodge 3500 truck from $2,500 to $250, and lowered the value of the truck from $33,000 to $10,000. The truck belonged to her sister and brother-in-law.

On Oct. 27, Johnson contacted the Progressive Insurance claims department and reported an accident involving the Dodge. According to the prosecution, Johnson altered the vehicle information to help her family after the accident happened.

First District Judge Benjamin Simpson originally sentenced Johnson to up to four years in prison. But the court suspended the prison sentence in favor of the lighter penalty.

The Idaho Department of Insurance and Progressive Insurance referred the case to the Idaho Attorney General’s Insurance Crimes Unit and and Deputy Attorney General Rondee Blessing acted as prosecutor.
